These sculptures speak to my personal and familial histories and celebrate survival. The Let Go Byes Be Go Byes series is built from factory conveyor belts and painted in brilliant color. Rooted in the Council, Seymore, Seymour, Eleazer, Foster, Ward history of working in the potato graders of the Hamptons, and a tradition of colorful storytelling, the conveyors point to hard labor while their arching forms recall minimalist sculpture.

Pastel and metallic hues lend a sense of exuberance to an otherwise utilitarian object of labor. The concept for this work was created during my MFA program at Columbia University in 2012 after interviews with Paul Council Jr. (Dad), and the prototype was created in 2017 and presented in solo exhibition Tenderheaded at Rush Arts Gallery.
